The road for the 1st year and 2nd year boys unfortunately came to an end with both teams reaching the regional quarter finals, they were always going to be up against it.
Our 1st years began their quarter final vs St Joseph’s of Nenagh. After a slow first quarter which saw us trail 16-2, the boys showed tremendous spirit and fight in the following 2 quarters where they brought the deficit back to 8 points. Andrew O Hanlon with some fine shooting to keep us in the fight. Daniel Tierney added on a few more points but it wasn’t to be our day. St Joseph’s ran out 38 – 20 winners in the end.
Following this result, our 2nd years took to the court for their encounter with St Caimans, Shannon. Similarly a slow start to this game saw our boys chasing the game from the early stages. Evan Arthur kept us in the game with some excellent shooting. Eoin Kavanagh and Geoff O Donnell followed these up to close to the gap to 11 points at half time. A very competitive 2nd half saw us shoot score for score, which unfortunately wasn’t good enough for us. The game ended in a loss of 40-27.
Unfortunately for now the journey is over but our boys will return next season in hopes of some silverware once more. Well done to all the players involved in getting this far. Another very enjoyable year with a new group of players and we look forward to seeing what entertainment they bring us in the future.
