To say that we are proud of you today would not be enough. Not only are we overwhelmed by the success you have had today, we are full of gratitude for the commitment you showed to eachother since the start of 5th Year and for the focus you brought to the last few weeks in June.
We have students who have achieved among the highest points in the country. We have solid, consistent packs of results, achieved by students whose work ethic never faltered and whose energy never wained, even though, at times, it was hard to keep believing in their own potential. We have students who thought they would not pass, coming away with honours in subjects that they struggled with. We have history making LCA students: the first ever class in Salesian Secondary College and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them achieved a Distinction. This is unheard of.
This evening, I am proud beyond words of you, your teachers and our school. Thank you to your exceptional teachers and to each one of you for doing yourselves proud. I will pass on your kind words and the lovely things you said when I called you today to your teachers. Collectively, we will remember the unbelievable sporting, musical, academic and life achievements your year group have had. You were driven by loving kindness, as 6th Years. And now the world is at your feet.
To your parents and guardians, thank you for sending your child to Salesian Secondary College. Your sons and daughters make us look good: your young adult is the role model the younger students look to. Congratulations on their character and on their enabling today of opportunities for the rest of their lives.
Class of 2022, legends every one.
I’ll be in touch again on Monday about appeals, for those that are interested.
Have a great celebration and, please, always get home safely from wherever life takes you.
