Choir
Salesian Secondary College Choir is a unique mix of talented students from across all class groups and year groups. We practice at lunch time and share a love of singing in a fun and inclusive space. Choral singing has many benefits, but most importantly, it allows students to develop friendships with other music lovers, and offers a great sense of achievement as the individual voices learn to blend into a beautiful single sound.
Trad Group
One lunchtime a week, students from all year groups interested in playing with like minded instrumentalists meet and play tunes together. Occasionally we are asked to perform for school functions such as the opening school mass, Carol service, the Don Bosco day and the leaving cert graduation, if students wish to participate. Students will learn pieces in different genres and will be given the music either as sheet music, written notes, or chords, depending on their preference. It is a great opportunity to meet other students interested in playing for fun and to develop their confidence performing together. Day to be confirmed in September.
Musicals
Salesian Secondary College has a rich history of Musical Theatre within the school community. Our production team believes in the power of music as a tool for social inclusion to aid development of self-confidence, self-expression and personal growth through the medium of dance, drama and singing.
Over the years Salesian College has been renowned for its remarkable performances of musical theatre set in the Limetree Theatre. Some past productions are; “We Will Rock You”, “Back to 80’s”, “Beauty & The Beast”, “All Shook Up”, “The Wiz” and many more. While each project is different, the role of the school musical provides a valuable experience for all students from those with lead roles to students who run our backstage and front of house teams.
Whilst being part of the cast of a Salesian College production, students have the opportunity to work with a professional team who are second to none. We are incredibly proud of our annual school musical and the opportunities it affords to every student at Salesian Secondary College to excel within the framework of the extra-curricular programme. Taking part in the school musical builds confidence, team-loyalty and leadership skills which equip our students for the future in every area they enter into socially and academically.
STEM Competition
STEM subjects are all about advancing the world of health™. Using as many STEM subjects as possible identify a problem in healthcare and show us in a video how you would go about solving it. Be creative and make sure to tell us how you came up with the issue or problem, and how you have used the STEM subjects to find a solution. Have you run your own experiments in the lab? Have you built a prototype? Even better! We’d love to see it in your video!
Robotics
In the VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held year-round.
SVP Society
The aim of SVP Society is to tackle poverty in all its forms through practical assistance to those in need. Therefore, visiting and engaging with those in need plays a huge part of the society; we also host various fundraising events in aid of SVP throughout the year. Not only that, but there is a huge social element at the heart of the society as we know how important it is for students to have a place to unwind and meet friends. Salesian Secondary College SVP is a relaxed, easy-going and flexible society- you can get involved as much or as little as you like!
