Green Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools.
Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce (FEE member for Ireland).
This year we will be applying for our 6th Green Flag, Global Citizenship. Last year we were awarded our biodiversity flag which focused on our wonderful campus. This included maintaining flower pots, planting of daffodils etc. This is in order to increase the range of species in our beautiful surroundings.
We are working to maintain our other flags: Litter & waste, Energy, Water and Travel.
Environment Committee of Salesian Secondary College
The aim of our committee is to make students, staff and the wider community aware of how their lifestyle choices affect the environment and to ensure that Salesian Secondary College remains a green school. A team of enthusiastic, committed students make huge efforts to look at how our school can be more environmentally friendly. We believe every small effort can make a big difference!!
The Environment Committees have worked throughout the years to achieve the following Green School flags:
- Litter & Waste
- Energy
- Water
- Travel
- Biodiversity
The Green Schools Programme aims to include all members of the School Community. Parent participation is most welcome. We are open to new ideas and suggestions.
We are currently working on Global Citizenship: Litter & Waste.
