Munster Regional Champions

Congratulations to our U16 Boys who were crowned Munster South West Regional Champions today with a win over neighbours Mungret. A highly entertaining game that saw it go down to the final second where we ran out 1 point winners on a scoreline of 54 – 53. A game of outstanding shooting on both sides. Fred Klimas, Seán Fitz and Miguel Azzopardi leading the way in the opening quarter, sending us in a point ahead. The second quarter belonged entirely to Mungret where they shot the lights out, heading into half time 5 points ahead on a scoreline of 31 – 26.  Trailing by 3 points at the end of the third quarter after a fantastic 3 pointer from Mungret saw us with a lot to do in the final 8 minutes. The experience and resilience that the boys showed to fight back has to be commended. Free shots from Fred saw us pull back level before Miguel excellently rebounded the ball and finished expertly to give us the lead with 2 minutes to go. Fantastic defensive work from Connor Ryan saw us win rebound after rebound to set up our attacks. It all came down to the final minute where Mungret closed the gap to just a single point. Everything was up for grabs, seconds on the clock when Seán Fitzgerald intercepted the ball to secure possession for us, and ultimately the game. A performance to be proud of from everyone involved, on both sides. A special congratulations to Fred Klimas who turned in another outstanding performance and racking up an impressive 34 points to win the games MVP award. Miguel Azzopardi accepted the trophy as the captain of the team. Well done to everyone involved on this fantastic achievement. Thanks also to all our supporters who came out on the day to cheer us on.

Next up for the boys is the All Ireland Cup Semi Final vs Thurles CBS in UL on December 11th. All support is greatly welcomed once again.
