Once again this year, Salesian Secondary College was bustling with spórt agus spraoi for Seachtain na Gaeilge. Seachtain na Gaeilge is a wonderful initiative, during which the students and staff of the school enagage in various activities in order to promote labhairt na Gaeilge ar scoil. Many students were rewarded for making an exemplary effort to speak Irish in their day to day school life. All students engaged in some traditional dances during PE class, such as Ionsaí na hInse (the siege of Ennis) and An Dreoilín.
First years were taught a song as Gaeilge in class by our wonderful TY students, as well as taking part in a seanfhocail bookmark competition.
Students also engaged in bingo as Gaeilge in their rang Gaeilge, as well as being shown ‘Réaltaí na Gaeltachta’, a current RTE program, in which Irish celebrities move to the Gaeltacht to improve their Gaeilge.
Aimsigh an bratach was our daily competition for students to find the hidden tri-colour around the school.
Our 5th years were treated with a showing of an scannán Gaeilge, ‘An Cailín Ciúin’, which was a huge hit.
A huge bualadh bos to all of the students in our school who engaged whole-heartedly in the weeks activies.
Remember – ‘Beatha teanga í a labhairt!’
