Teaching and Learning Update

January 28, 2021

A key element of our Literacy Strategy is reading and the encouragement of ‘Reading for Enjoyment.’

At the moment, our first years are reading Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Private Peaceful’, while our second years are getting ‘musical’ by reading Willy Russel’s play ‘Blood Brothers’. Third Years are reading John Steinbeck’s masterpiece ‘Of Mice and Men’ and fifth years will soon begin their study of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood.

While books are an important part of the curriculum, we are encouraging students to do as much reading of their own as possible!

‘Reading gives us a place to go when we have to stay where we are!’
